Summer is truly a magical time to visit the Hunter Valley! Spend the warm, sunny days exploring the vineyards; unwind with a picnic, bottle of sparkling in hand; or simply relax in the cool of the evening with a glass of wine to a star filled sky.
It’s an exciting time of year in the Hunter, as vintage is underway! Harvesting the grapes, rushing between the vineyard and winery, crushing, pressing, pump overs, racking, more hand picking… it’s all hands on deck! This year the early heat and dry conditions has brought vintage forward 3 weeks earlier than normal. With low yields across the Hunter, the flavours are superb. Whilst some winemakers tout every year as the best year, this vintage certainly is up there with the top. A minimal amount of water in the grapes intensifies the sugars, and being in the Wollombi Valley means the additional 2-3 weeks it takes for our grapes to ripen behind that of Pokolbin, allows our grapes extra time to develop in such a fast vintage. As always, we do not use harsh chemical sprays and are committed to making organic wines of the highest quality so our hard work in the vineyard really is a labour of love!
